Daily writing prompt
Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?
The future is a black, unknowable vacuum.
The present is a swift, tiny spark, impossible to comprehend.
The past spreads behind us, immense, brightly colored and easier to contemplate.
And so yes, I think more about the past. With wonder. Never regret. Or at least, almost never.
An hour past, even a minute past, is as unreachable, as lost to us, as ten years, twenty years, fifty years past. And so, while I don’t live solely for the present, I do my best to value and enjoy it. When I look over my shoulder, I don’t ever want to think, “why did I not appreciate that lost, commonplace moment?”
