I do admire how much these islanders eat and drink, and with what brave abandon. Candied mirlitons, rounds of fried okra, sliced bourbon ham, raw oysters in the half shell. Stuffed artichokes and bowls of sweet relish, mustard and horseradish, and of course, Black Gumbo, Shrimp Creole, Jamabalaya, Spinach pie and Yam soufflé. All washed down with wine, lemon rum, ale, champagne, orange water.
