A Writer’s Website

Wednesday, May 4 , 1988

Spent most of the day at Locus in the back putting in correcting pages. Since I spend much of the time plugged into the radio listening to the news, the day seemed to drift past.

Tomorrow some mathematician will be coming for a visit. Then, on Friday, it will be J.G. Ballard and a writer from Eastern Europe, who wants to take a photo of the Locus staff eating the Beluga caviar he’s bringing as a gift. We’ll need to dress up.

I managed to exchange a few words with the new hire today when she came into the back to look for book covers. I’d heard she’d worked for Black Oak Books, but she said, no, she’d worked in accounts receivable for a publisher. She speaks very quietly and very, very definitely. Disconcertingly serious.

Dinner tonight was scallops marinara, which I fixed while Tim watched a tape he had made of Conan the Destroyer. Right now, I am watching another tape, PD James’ The Black Tower. Tims’ at work.

Taping shows was another new and exciting technical option which we indulged in freely.
